Graceland is excited to share a new episode of its exclusive video series, Elvis: Up Close, offering fans a rare look at the king’s most memorable artifacts.
In this episode of Elvis: Up Close, we are featuring a mid-century Atomic Moon and Stars lamp that first appeared in the Presley home in the mid-1950s. Made from plaster of Paris, the lamp features a crescent moon with small star cutouts that light up with three bulbs, creating a warm glow inside what is now Vernon Presley’s office at Graceland.
This style of lamp became popular during the 1950s, when designs inspired by space and the future were making their way into American homes. Its playful shapes and bright details offer a small glimpse into the décor that surrounded Elvis and his family during those early years.
